Just some of the feedback from the audience and choir members following this amazing concert!
"Spellbinding" "Finest singing ever"
"… the audience were SO engaged and enthusiastic"
"It really was an utter joy to be a part of this inspiring, and joyous concert"
This year’s concert, held much closer to Christmas than in previous years, felt perfectly timed and was filled with a warm, celebratory atmosphere. The varied programme of festive music opened with the processional carol Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus, immediately drawing cheers from an appreciative audience and setting the tone for the evening.
Soprano soloist Denise Leigh, accompanied by her guide dog Tilly, proved a wonderful ambassador for the supported charity, Guide Dogs. With her husband, Stefan Andrusyschyn, at the piano, she delivered a beautiful selection of pieces and joined the choirs for memorable performances of O Holy Night and Bohemian Rhapsody.
The concert also featured a premiere by organist Richard Dawson, whose Toccata on “Gabriel’s Message” was warmly received. Our regular ‘orchestral’ support, Gemini Brass, delighted with their Capriol Suite, Disney Medley and We Wish You a Merry Christmas, while Ukrainian violist Yurii Biletskyi added poignant colour to the lamp carols, Ave Maria and Ose Shalom.
Audience participation was enthusiastic during the carols, including O Little Town of Bethlehem, Good King Wenceslas and Hark! the Herald Angels Sing, culminating in a rousing O Come, All Ye Faithful. A standing ovation followed the finale, which featured the choirs’ electrifying performance of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, marking the 50th anniversary of its release, and bringing a joyful and unforgettable evening to a close.
