St George's Church, Edgbaston, Birmingham

Another hugely successful concert.  This time, the programme was a different and challenging experience which was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.

The choir sounded magnificent, taking full advantage of the amazing acoustics in St George’s Church, Edgbaston.

The concert started with Allelujah from Handel’s Coronation Anthem No.3 – The King Shall Rejoice.

The choir then performed A Choral Suite comprising excerpts from The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace by Sir Karl Jenkins, which the choir will be performing in full, along with Midlands Hospitals’ Choir, at Birmingham Town Hall in July.  (Click here for more details).

Our Guest Soloist – Samantha Oxborough (Mezzo-Soprano) delighted the audience with two songs - We’ll Gather Lilacs and One Moment in Time.

The second half of the concert took a different turn with a selection of Animal-themed songs, including:

Animal Crackers, a delightful choral collection by Eric Whitacre, inspired by the whimsical animal poems of Ogden Nash. This musical menagerie featured The Panther, The Cow, The Firefly, The Canary, The Eel, and The Kangaroo.

And two traditional songs, Old Mother Hubbard and Sing a Song of Sixpence.

And to finish ....... one of the choir’s favourite pieces, an arrangement by Roger Emerson of You Raise Me Up.
